Robison Family, continued (page 2)

William Robison was the brother of George Heyward Robison.   William was born about 1728 in Virginia, died 1788 in Barnwell District, SC.

"WILLIAM ROBISON, born in Virginia, resided in Orangeburg District.   Between 1785 and 1793, he obtained grants for some 3,775 acres along the Edisto River and 353 acres near the Savannah River.   In 1790 the Federal Census listed four slaves as part of his household in northern Orangeburg District.  The District between Savannah River and North Fork of Edisto River elected Robison to the Fourth (1782), Fifth (1784-1784), and Sixth (1785-1786) General Assemblies.  He represented Orange Parish in the Seventh General Assembly (1787-1788).  As a delegate for the district between the Savannah River and North Fork of Edisto River, he voted at the State Convention to ratify the Federal Constitution (1788).    Locally, he served as a tax inquirer and collector for the district between the Savannah River and North Fork of Edisto River (1777-1778).”

Jean Mayo Hirsch provided most of the notes I have about William, and gave me insight into the family.  Jean says that William married three times:

William married 1st)   Joanna Embry, married 25 JAN 1754 in Orange County, Virginia.

William married 2nd)  Elizabeth Allen, married 5 AUG 1763 in St. Phillip's Parish, Charleston, South Carolina

William married 3rd) Mary Lark, in 1767/68.

Taking these marriage dates, this would be the birth order of his children, and their mothers:

sp: Joanna EMBRY (m.25 Jan 1754)

The Children of William Robison

1)   Henry Embry Robison.   (any information welcomed!)

2)   Lucy Dunbar married Joseph Vince.   I show only one child for them, Ann Judith Vince, who married Stephen Smith.   I know they - Ann & Stephen - had a daughter, Lucy Eleanor Smith who married her cousin, Maj. Frank Dunbar, and their descendants will be repeated for him.     (Any information and corrections always welcomed!)

3)   Allen Robison  (any information welcomed!)

4)  Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Robison, married her first cousin, George Stewart Robison.    Information about them will be provided under his information.

5)   Lark Robison.   I haven’t researched Lark, and would love to hear from others about him.   All I have are these notes:     1810 CENSUS, Barnwell District, SC has Lark Robison.  Also in Barnwell is Margaret Robison, listed separately on the Census.   From John Boden:   Caroline Robison, b. October 4, 1828, Barnwell District. Daughter of Lark Robison. Married John Philpot McElhenny, Barnwell District, on May 13, 1846.

6)  Dennis Robison   (no information)

8)  George Galphin Robison:    The following paragraph taken from the Minutes of the Court of Winton County, later Barnwell County, S. C. were made by Laura Bellinger Jones:    Ordered that George Robison, Jr. be appointed Guardian to George Robison a Minor, Son of William Robison. Decd.   (further information welcomed!)
